Ukrainian teens find refuge in Ancona, Italy through Caritas program

Twenty‑two adolescents aged 12 to 17 from Kherson, Ukraine, arrived in Ancona on 23 July 2026 under the Caritas Diocesana Ancona‑Osimo project “È più bello insieme”. They were received by Mayor Daniele Silvetti, Council President Simone Pizzie and Social Policies Assessor Manuela Caucci, and are accompanied by Caritas staff Tetyana and Natalya.

The two‑week stay aims to give the refugees a break from the war that began on 24 February 2022, which has left Kherson heavily damaged and under constant drone threat. The programme includes educational workshops, group games, beach outings at Palombina, walks through the historic centre and meetings with local parishes and community members, offering the youths a sense of normalcy and psychological relief.
