Ukrzaliznycja increases grain transit to Poland and western borders

Ukrainian state railway operator Ukrzaliznycja has significantly increased grain transit to western borders. In October, the average daily transfer of grain wagons rose to approximately 336, a 4.7-fold increase compared to 71 wagons per day in July. Poland remains the primary destination, receiving an average of 106 wagons daily, marking a 54 percent increase compared to September. Despite this growth, transit efforts face challenges from wagon congestion and Russian attacks on railway infrastructure and rolling stock.

Parallel to logistics increases, trade dynamics between Poland and Ukraine show significant shifts. Polish exports to Ukraine reached a value of 41 billion PLN during the first eight months of the year, representing a 15.4 percent year-on-year increase. Key export categories include mineral products, vehicles, aircraft, machinery, and electronics. Ukraine currently ranks as the seventh largest recipient of Polish goods. Conversely, imports from Ukraine have seen a decline, falling 3.9 percent in 2025 compared to 2024.
