ULEB EuroLeague season begins with reduced Latvian presence

The 2026/2027 ULEB EuroLeague season is set to begin with 20 teams competing for the title. The upcoming season features a reduced presence of Latvian players compared to the previous year.

Only two Latvian players will participate in the top-tier tournament: Dāvis Bertāns, playing his third season with Dubai, and Rodions Kurucs, entering his second season with Baskonia. Other Latvian players, including Artūrs Žagars and Rolands Šmits, have moved to the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) to play for the Golden Bulls and Rockets, respectively.

Dubai has strengthened its roster for the new season by recruiting players such as Elī Okobo, Tomasas Volpovas, and Tornike Shengelia, while also appointing Spanish coach Chavi Pascual. Meanwhile, Baskonia continues its campaign with Kurucs following a season where he averaged 7.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.
