Uli Hoeneß criticizes UEFA and Nations League scheduling

Uli Hoeneß, honorary president of FC Bayern München, has launched a sharp critique against UEFA and international football governing bodies regarding the current match calendar. Hoeneß described the Nations League as the ‘joke of the year,’ arguing that the scheduling of international breaks so soon after the start of the Bundesliga disrupts the rhythm of club players.

He noted that Bayern München is particularly affected, with 18 players traveling for international duties following a long World Cup period. Hoeneß emphasized that clubs, rather than national teams, are responsible for paying the players and should demand more protection against fixture congestion.

Bayern President Herbert Hainer supported these views, stating that no other team in the Bundesliga is as heavily burdened by international commitments. Hainer suggested that the physical strain of constant travel and Nations League appearances was evident in the team’s recent 2-2 draw against FC Augsburg.
