ULS do Alto Alentejo denies oncology service cuts in Portalegre

The Alto Alentejo Local Health Unit (ULS) has denied reports suggesting potential cuts to oncology services in Portalegre. In a statement, the administration rejected interpretations that indicate a reduction in patient care capacity, asserting instead that measures are underway to strengthen and develop the service.

The administration stated it is working to consolidate care capacity by planning for increased specialized human resources and improving infrastructural and organizational conditions. The stated goals include ensuring continuity of care for cancer patients, improving accessibility, and adapting the service to the increasing clinical needs in the region.

These clarifications follow inquiries from seven Socialist Party (PS) deputies who questioned the government regarding reported organizational changes at the Dr. José Maria Grande Hospital. The deputies expressed concern over the potential impact of these changes on the continuity and quality of oncological care in the district.
