Umar Ahmed convoy breaches toll barriers in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh Police have registered multiple FIRs following an incident at the Nawabganj toll plaza on NH-19, where a convoy associated with Umar Ahmed, son of the late gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed, allegedly breached toll barriers without payment.

The incident occurred on August 8, 2026, around 3:50 PM, while Umar Ahmed was being transported under police escort from Lucknow jail to Prayagraj to attend the funeral of his brother, Abaan Ahmed. According to reports, approximately 25 to 30 private vehicles, including luxury SUVs, followed the official police escort.

Toll plaza management alleges that the vehicles sped through the boom barriers, causing damage to government property and loss of revenue. Staff members reported being subjected to verbal abuse, threats, and an attempt to be run over by the vehicles. Investigators are currently using CCTV footage and vehicle registration data to identify the occupants and determine if the private vehicles joined the convoy mid-route or accompanied it from the start.
