Umar Ahmed convoy toll plaza incidents in Uttar Pradesh
Overview
On August 8, 2026, a convoy associated with Umar Ahmed, son of the late Atiq Ahmed, allegedly breached toll barriers at the Nawabganj toll plaza on NH-19 in Uttar Pradesh. Umar Ahmed was being transported under police escort from Lucknow jail to Prayagraj for his brother Abaan Ahmed’s funeral when approximately 25 to 30 private vehicles, including luxury SUVs, reportedly followed the official escort.
Toll plaza management reported that the vehicles sped through boom barriers, causing damage to government property, and that staff members were subjected to verbal abuse, threats, and attempts to be run over.
Following a subsequent dispute at the Akhtiyari Kotila toll plaza, Uttar Pradesh Police seized two luxury cars. Authorities have registered FIRs involving charges such as attempted murder and obstructing government officials. Investigators are utilizing CCTV footage and vehicle registration data to identify the occupants of the private vehicles and determine if the convoy was pre-planned.
