Umar Khalid granted three‑day interim bail by Delhi High Court

The Delhi High Court approved a three‑day interim bail for former JNU student leader Umar Khalid, a defendant in the 2020 Delhi riots UAPA case. The order, issued by judges N. Chawla and A. Dudgeja, allows Khalid to be released from 1 June to 3 June 2026 to care for his mother during her surgery and to attend a family ritual.

The bail was granted on humanitarian grounds after the trial court had rejected his earlier petition. Conditions restrict Khalid to the Delhi‑NCR area, limit his travel to an hospital, and require him to keep only one mobile phone.

Khalid had sought a longer 15‑day bail, citing the need to accompany his mother before and after the operation and to participate in his late uncle’s 40th‑year‑anniversary ceremony.
