Umatilla National Forest fires prompt increased evacuations

Wildfires in the Umatilla National Forest, specifically the Hagen and Paradise fires, have prompted increased evacuation orders in Umatilla County. The Paradise Fire has reached 5,423 acres with 0% containment, leading to Level 3 ‘GO NOW’ evacuation notices for several zones. Fire activity has increased along Low Ridge and is moving toward Low Creek, though aircraft and drones have assisted in slowing the spread.

The Hagen Fire covers 57,678 acres and is 19% contained. Firefighters are working to strengthen fire lines near Highway 204 and Horseshoe Prairie, while protecting infrastructure such as the Union Pacific Railroad. While Highway 204 has recently reopened between Elgin and Weston, officials warn that closures may occur without notice due to fire activity.

Southern Area Command Team 3 has taken command of both incidents. Forecasts indicate hot, dry weather with low humidity and wind gusts, which may facilitate further fire spread and spot fires.
