Umatilla National Forest fires see increased containment and reduced evacuations

Firefighters are making progress in containing the Hagen and Paradise fires within the Umatilla National Forest. As of August 28, 2026, the Hagen Fire has burned approximately 60,645 acres with 33% containment and 1,043 personnel assigned. The Paradise Fire has burned 9,272 acres with 13% containment and 463 personnel assigned.

Due to improved conditions, emergency officials have reduced several evacuation zones from Level 3 (Go Now) to Level 2 (Be Set) across portions of Umatilla County, Union County, and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

Tactical operations continue, including securing containment lines and mopping up heat in the Mill Creek drainage. While some emergency closures have been lifted, others remain in place, and travelers on Highway 204 are advised to remain alert for heavy traffic, dust, and smoke.
