Umbria enhances public transport for Franciscan centenary

The Umbria Region, in collaboration with Trenitalia and Busitalia, has implemented an enhanced public transport plan to coincide with the eighth centenary of Saint Francis. The service expansion, active through December 31, 2026, aims to improve accessibility to major spiritual, cultural, and historical sites.

The plan focuses on key areas including Assisi, Orvieto, Gubbio, and the Valnerina (specifically Cascia and Norcia). The initiative utilizes an intermodal approach, integrating trains, urban and extra-urban buses, and funiculars to provide more frequent and seamless connections for both local residents and international pilgrims.

Regional President Stefania Proietti noted that the measures are intended to support sustainable mobility and manage high visitor numbers, as many local accommodations are already experiencing overbooking due to the upcoming celebrations.
