Umbria launches 765,000 euro plan to manage stray animals

The Municipality of Sassari and the local health authority (Asl) have established an agreement to manage the feline population. The project, which runs until mid-2027, aims to increase sterilizations for free-roaming cats, ensure identification and traceability, and promote health monitoring through vaccinations to protect public health from zoonotic diseases.

In the Umbria region, an extraordinary plan has been launched with 765,000 euros to combat animal abandonment and manage stray populations. The initiative aims to perform approximately 3,000 sterilizations of dogs and cats over two years.

Of the total funding, 573,750 euros will be allocated to local municipalities for birth control, sterilization, kennel renovation, and microchip procurement. The remaining 191,250 euros will be managed by the region for awareness campaigns and professional training. Federsanità Anci Umbria will coordinate the operational efforts between local administrations and veterinary services.
