Sassari stray cat management program
Overview
The Municipality of Sassari and the local health authority (Asl) have entered into an agreement to manage and protect the city’s free-roaming cat population. Titled ‘Control and management of births in the free feline populations of the Municipality of Sassari’, the project aims to increase sterilization rates, ensure animal identification and traceability, and implement health monitoring through vaccinations and parasite treatments.
Scheduled to run until mid-2027, the initiative includes cooperation with a private clinic and zoophile guards to assist injured or traumatized animals. Deputy Mayor Pierluigi Salis noted that managing the free cat population is a priority for the administration.
