Umbria regional government outlines Ferrovia Centrale Umbra reactivation timeline
The Umbria regional government has provided updates on the reactivation of the Ferrovia Centrale Umbra (FCU) railway line. Regional Infrastructure Councilor Francesco De Rebotti stated that the reactivation of the Terni-Perugia line is a top priority for the administration.
For the central section between Ponte San Giovanni and Città di Castello, track renewal is largely complete. The activation of the new signaling systems is expected by the second half of 2027, pending technical safety authorizations from Ansfisa.
On the southern section from Terni to Ponte San Giovanni, full line activation including ERTMS technology will follow the central section. For the northern section between Città di Castello and Sansepolcro, track work is expected to finish in early 2027, with civil works on bridges and stations projected to conclude by October 2028.
