Umbria tourism surges 9.7% in first half of 2026

Italy’s tourism ministry reports that Umbria recorded a 9.7% increase in tourist arrivals during the first six months of 2026, making it the second‑fastest growing region after Calabria. The national average rise was 4.4% in the same period.

Domestic travel drove much of the growth, with Italian visitors to Umbria up 13.6%, the highest among Italian regions. International arrivals also climbed, contributing to a 6.45% rise nationwide. Key Umbrian cities such as Perugia, Spoleto, Orvieto, Piediluco and Assisi attracted the bulk of visitors, the latter benefiting from celebrations marking 800 years since Saint Francis’s death.

The Ministry attributes the surge to targeted promotion, investment in accommodation and the region’s cultural and religious attractions, positioning tourism as a strategic pillar of Umbria’s economy.
