Umno evaluates grassroots sentiment before Melaka election pact

Umno President and Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that the party will not enter an electoral arrangement with Perikatan Nasional (PN) for the upcoming Melaka state election without first assessing grassroots sentiment. Zahid noted that member views are mixed and the party is conducting a detailed study to avoid entering into unsuitable or hostile conditions that might not yield positive outcomes.

While official negotiations between Barisan Nasional and PN have not yet formally begun, PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang indicated that representatives from both coalitions have been involved in discussions. Awang expressed confidence in reaching an agreement, suggesting much of the BN grassroots support cooperation with PN.

Additionally, Zahid confirmed that Umno will send representatives to the 72nd PAS annual muktamar in Kelantan following an invitation from the party.
