UMOA banking sector sees profit rise to 1,252.1 billion FCFA in 2025

The West African Monetary Union (UMOA) saw significant growth in its financial sector during 2025. According to reports from the Banking Commission, the global provisional net result for credit institutions rose to 1,252.1 billion FCFA, a 25.5% increase from 998 billion FCFA in 2024.

Banking performance varied by country. Côte d'Ivoire led the Union with 666.5 billion FCFA in profits, followed by Senegal with 274.7 billion FCFA and Mali with 134.2 billion FCFA. Togo was the sole exception, recording a deficit of 20.5 billion FCFA.

The microfinance sector also showed signs of recovery. Large-scale microfinance institutions transitioned from a 1.9 billion FCFA loss in 2024 to a net profit of 35.6 billion FCFA in 2025. However, this recovery is noted as fragile due to rising general expenses and credit risk provisions.
