UN aid truck hit by drone in Sudan, 50 tons of supplies destroyed

A United Nations‑chartered truck carrying more than 50 tonnes of humanitarian aid was struck by a drone in West Darfur, Sudan, on Wednesday. The UNHCR spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the driver was unharmed but the cargo – blankets, water tanks, kitchen kits, sleeping mats, plastic sheets and solar lamps – was completely destroyed. The aid was intended for the most vulnerable populations in the Al‑Mohayra camp near El‑Obeid and Abu Jubeyha.

The attack comes amid the intensifying war between Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has displaced millions and left over 12 million people without homes since it began in April 2023. The UN warned that the loss of the supplies will leave thousands of residents without essential emergency assistance. Separate drone strikes in Kosti, White Nile, injured three civilians, underscoring the perilous security environment for humanitarian operations.
