UN and EU See Possible Progress on Cyprus Dispute

United Nations and the European Union say there may be room for advancement in resolving the long‑standing Cyprus dispute. The agencies note that a new diplomatic framework could be offered, aiming to restart negotiations between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides.

Nicosia, representing the Greek Cypriot community, expressed caution about statements coming from Ankara, warning that the Turkish position must respect the rights of both communities. Turkish commentator Cenk Mutluyakalı urged a strong, united “solution” and highlighted that the keys to a settlement are held by both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, with Turkey, Greece, the United Kingdom and the EU also influencing the outcome. He suggested the UN Secretary‑General may present a fresh negotiation plan to the parties.
