UN condemns Israeli actions in Gaza as civilian casualties rise

The United Nations rebuked Israel after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the military to occupy 70 percent of the Gaza Strip, stating that the entire territory should remain for Palestinians. The UN spokesperson emphasized that “one hundred percent of Gaza should be for the Palestinian people.”

Israeli forces continued airstrikes, drone attacks and artillery fire in Gaza, targeting residential areas and infrastructure, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries. Reported death tolls since the ceasefire began in October 2023 total at least 922, including approximately 22,000 children and 33,000 women and girls.

In the occupied West Bank, Israeli troops entered the al‑Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron and forced worshippers to evacuate, closing the site without explanation amid the Eid Al‑Adha holiday. Palestinian authorities described the action as a violation of freedom of worship and international law.
