UN envoy Holguin to meet Cyprus leaders Erhürman and Hristodulidis

United Nations Secretary‑General’s personal representative Maria Angela Holguin will remain on Cyprus until 14 June and meet Turkish Cypriot President Tufan Erhürman and Greek Cypriot President Nikos Hristodulidis. The talks are described by the newspaper Alithia as the start of a “final attempt” to resolve the island’s division. Holguin aims to draft a document for Secretary‑General António Guterres, who will evaluate it and decide on the next steps in the settlement process. The draft is expected to address security‑council resolutions, a single sovereign federation with equal rights, freedom of movement, settlement, work and property ownership, and the withdrawal of troops and guarantor powers. The UN appears to favour Erhürman’s four‑point proposal, while Hristodulidis has put forward five points that call for a renewed negotiation framework.
