UN envoy Olkin optimistic about July‑August Cyprus 5+1 talks

UN Special Envoy Maria Anhela Olkin said she remains positive and optimistic about a forthcoming "5+1" meeting on Cyprus, which she expects to take place in July or August. She told reporters that the exact date is not yet fixed but the meeting is being prepared with the UN Secretary‑General. Olkin highlighted that the meeting follows a productive session with Northern Cyprus leader Tufan Erhürman and an earlier encounter with President Nikos Christodoulides. She added that she will meet the Turkish Foreign Minister on Monday before traveling to Athens to meet the Greek foreign minister, and she hopes the talks could lead to the restart of negotiations.

Olkin cautioned that any announcement about the resumption of talks will depend on the outcome of the 5+1 meeting, describing such a development as "very good news" if it occurs.
