UN Human Rights Council orders urgent probe of violations in White, Sudan

The United Nations Human Rights Council voted unanimously to launch an urgent investigation into alleged violations of international humanitarian law and possible war crimes in the city of White (Al‑Bayda), North Kordofan, Sudan. The council expressed grave concern that the Rapid Support Forces’ siege and recent drone strikes on civilian infrastructure could lead to large‑scale atrocities, including sexual violence, affecting hundreds of thousands of residents.

The council tasked the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Sudan to carry out the fact‑finding mission and called for an immediate, unconditional cease‑fire, the establishment of a credible political transition, and the delivery of humanitarian assistance to more than 500,000 people in need. It warned that without intervention, White could suffer atrocities comparable to those recorded in El Fasher last year.
