UN Report: 600+ dead, 18,000 displaced in Haiti's Port-au-Prince

A United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) report covering March‑July 2026 documents a severe surge in gang‑related violence in the capital. In the Plaine du Cul‑de‑Sac and Cité Soleil neighborhoods, at least 613 people were killed and 375 injured, with more than a third of the dead being civilians not linked to armed groups. The report records over 176 women and girls subjected to sexual violence, including gang rapes. More than 18,000 residents were forced to flee their homes as gangs control up to 90 % of Port‑au‑Prince and surrounding areas. The BINUH calls for strengthened protection measures and humanitarian assistance to address the escalating human‑rights violations and the disruption of essential services such as education and health care.
