UN mission alleges crimes against humanity in Iran and war crimes by the US
A United Nations investigation mission has presented a report to the Human Rights Council in Geneva, alleging that Iranian authorities have committed crimes against humanity. The report details the violent suppression of protests that began in late 2025, documenting systematic killings, torture, arbitrary detentions, and forced disappearances. The mission noted that security forces used lethal force across all 31 provinces and reported that at least 221 children died during the crackdown.
Simultaneously, the UN mission found reasonable grounds to suggest that the United States may have committed war crimes. The report cites two specific attacks in February as indiscriminate aggression against civilian infrastructure, including a bombing of a primary school in Minab that killed over 150 people, including approximately 120 children, and an attack on a sports center in Lamerd.
Ali Bahreini, Iran’s permanent representative to the UN, condemned the actions of the United States and Israel, stating that the Iranian people have suffered from war, economic pressures, and maritime blockades driven by these powers. He called for international accountability and reparations for the victims of these alleged violations of international humanitarian law.
