UN Report Finds Israeli Forces Committed Sexual Violence Against Palestinian Prisoners

The United Nations’ 2025 annual report on sexual violence in armed conflict listed Israeli security forces among parties suspected of patterns of sexual abuse. covering January‑December 2025, the report documented 31 cases involving Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank, including 14 men, 7 women, 9 boys and one girl. The abuses described rape, gang rape, attempted rape, use of tools, forced undressing, genital assaults, shooting at genitalia, unwanted touching, humiliating strip searches and threats of rape. Thirteen incidents occurred in 2025, with eighteen additional cases from 2023‑2024. The UN noted obstacles to reporting, citing direct threats from Israeli security agencies. More than 9,000 Palestinians remain detained, over 4,000 without charge or trial. Violations were reported at several detention sites – Sadiyeh Taiman, Atseioun, Al‑Majnūna, and multiple prisons – as well as at checkpoints and during military operations. Some victims were journalists and human‑rights defenders, and video evidence exists for at least one rape. Responsibility was attributed to the Israeli army, the prison service, and special units such as Keter and Yamam. The report warned of long‑term health impacts for survivors released into Gaza’s harsh conditions.
