UN says it has seen but not confirmed Independent's Cyprus peace‑plan draft

The United Nations confirmed it has received and read the Independent newspaper’s report on a draft plan to resolve the Cyprus dispute, but did not verify whether the proposals reflect the Secretary‑General’s approach. UN spokesperson Stephane Douzaryk said the organization “has seen, has read the publication” and reiterated that Secretary‑General António Guterres and his personal envoy Maria Anhela Olgin remain committed to supporting Cypriot leaders in restarting negotiations. He added that the Cyprus issue was discussed during a phone call between Guterres and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who described the exchange as positive and noted a “new dynamic” for advancing a solution within the UN framework and EU values.
