UN Secretary‑General Guterres' plan targets Cyprus deadlock as weeks become critical, says Papadopoulos

Viktoras Papadopoulos, spokesman for Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, announced that UN Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres has a concrete plan to break the long‑standing stalemate over the Cyprus dispute. He said the coming weeks will be decisive for restarting negotiations and achieving a sustainable, functional solution based on UN resolutions, international law and EU values.

Papadopoulos noted that the President has launched an international campaign and is working with the European Union to create incentives for Turkey, while the UN and EU are coordinating efforts with the Secretary‑General. An expanded conference is expected to be convened this summer to facilitate the restart of talks, with a focus on unity among the Cypriot people and political leadership.

The statements emphasize that diplomatic consultations are progressing at multiple levels and that a new dynamic effort by the UN aims to bring about a viable settlement that would allow Cyprus to function smoothly both domestically and internationally.
