UN Security Council convenes emergency meeting as Russia steps up attacks on Ukraine

The United Nations Security Council scheduled an emergency session for Monday after Ukraine formally requested it in response to a new wave of large‑scale Russian attacks. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Synyba thanked international partners for their continued support and urged sustained pressure on Moscow to enforce UN law and advance the peace proposal presented by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The latest strikes hit eastern and southern Ukraine, including a drone assault on a parking lot in Chernihiv that injured eight people and destroyed 37 cars, and an earlier strike on an industrial site in Brovary that killed four civilians. The attacks came hours after President Vladimir Putin publicly dismissed Zelenskyy’s peace overture and ordered Russian forces to "do their job." Ukrainian officials reported air‑defence systems intercepting drones and missiles over the Donetsk and Kherson regions, while the Russian defence ministry claimed to have downed additional unmanned aircraft over the Leningrad area.

The emergency Security Council meeting is expected to address these escalations and consider further diplomatic or punitive measures against Russia.
