UN Special Representative calls for peace and future focus in Cyprus
Khassim Diagne, the United Nations Special Representative and Head of UNFICYP, has issued a call for all parties in Cyprus to look beyond past divisions and focus on future opportunities. In a statement released for the International Day of Peace, Diagne emphasized that peace requires continuous effort, resources, and collective will.
Highlighting this year’s theme, ‘Investing in Peace,’ Diagne noted that peace is achieved through dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation. He stated that finding a solution on the island is a shared responsibility and reaffirmed the United Nations' commitment to a prosperous, stable, and peaceful Cyprus.
Diagne also expressed satisfaction with the ongoing communication between leaders, civil society, women, and youth from both sides of the island. He noted that UNFICYP has worked for 60 years to maintain stability and create the necessary conditions for a comprehensive solution.
