Senegal: President Faye heads to UN General Assembly amid $300M digital investment
Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye is undertaking a significant diplomatic mission, including participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. His itinerary follows recent visits to Washington and Abu Dhabi, aimed at strengthening international partnerships.
In Washington, the President met with the American firm Cybastion. The company announced a mobilization of approximately 300 million dollars (171 billion FCFA) to support digital sovereignty in Senegal. These funds are earmarked for cybersecurity, the development of national data centers, and technology transfer.
In other regional developments, the Sahel Alliance (AES) members—Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger—have reaffirmed their solidarity following recent destabilization attempts in Niger. Meanwhile, in Mali, General Assimi Goïta inaugurated the Mali Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CIAR-Mali) in Kati, a project funded by the national budget.
Additionally, religious leaders continue to engage in international diplomacy. A UN delegation visited Tivaouane to meet with the Khalife of the Tidiane, while Thierno Amadou Ba, the Khalife of Bambilor, concluded a European tour in Italy with a call for more humanistic immigration policies.
