A United Nations investigative commission has warned that Israeli military operations in southern Syria may constitute war crimes. Presenting findings to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, commission member Fionuala Ní Aolain reported that Israeli military activity in provinces such as Quneitra and Daraa is becoming a permanent presence, characterized by land raids, patrols, and the establishment of fixed military infrastructure.

The commission documented the detention of at least 49 Syrian citizens, including two children, who were reportedly transferred across the border into Israeli territory. There are significant concerns regarding the treatment of these detainees, as some are reportedly held in total isolation without access to legal counsel or family members, raising fears of torture.

Israeli authorities have rejected these findings, describing the UN proceedings as a politically motivated campaign. Israel maintains that its military presence is strictly limited to a temporary security buffer zone and asserts that it has no territorial claims to Syrian land.
