The United Nations agency UNAIDS warned that the worldwide HIV response is at risk of a resurgence after international funding fell by 18% in 2025, dropping to $7.3 billion – the lowest level in almost two decades. The United States, which had previously contributed roughly 75% of all international HIV aid, halted all HIV‑related financing in January 2025 following the return of President Donald Trump, before partially reinstating support.
