UNAM creates new coordination to centralize admission processes
The Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) has established a new Coordination of Administration and School Services to centralize its undergraduate admission processes. Joaquín Narro Lobo has been appointed to lead this new department by Rector Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas, with the official handover conducted by General Secretary Javier de la Fuente Hernández.
The creation of this centralized body follows recommendations from a technical commission of experts tasked with reviewing the 2026 admission cycle. The review was prompted by a crisis during the online entrance exam, where the university detected atypical patterns in results, necessitating a subsequent in-person control exam to verify applicant performance.
The new coordination aims to implement a unified governance model. Its responsibilities include defining stage-specific duties, strengthening the validation of evaluation instruments, and ensuring the timely involvement of information technology specialists. The goal is to oversee the entire process, from the design of evaluation tools to the delivery of results, to prevent the systemic supervision failures identified during the previous cycle.
