Overview

Following significant irregularities during its first fully online admission cycle for 2026–27, UNAM has officially announced a return to in-person exams for high school and undergraduate programs. He emphasized the need for mechanisms that ensure a “level playing field” for all applicants.

In response to the crisis, UNAM has established a new Coordination of Administration and School Services to centralize undergraduate admission processes. Led by Joaquín Narro Lobo, this body aims to implement a unified governance model to prevent systemic supervision failures by overseeing everything from tool design to result delivery.

Financial transparency data shows that the in-person control exam conducted in August cost 14.6 million pesos. Of this, 9.55 million pesos—approximately 65.3 percent of the extraordinary budget—was spent on renting the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. Operations in Mexico City, including venue rental, personnel, and travel, totaled 13.78 million pesos. Other exam locations included León, Oaxaca, and Tijuana.
