UNAM exam fraud: Academy operators detained in Mexico City

Two operators of the academy ‘Más Preparación’, identified as Edgar “N” and David “N”, have been linked to a criminal process for allegedly charging students to complete their UNAM entrance exams online. The investigation suggests the duo used the academy’s facilities and equipment to solve the tests on behalf of applicants during May and June 2026.

During the legal hearing, a judge reclassified the crime to a category that carries only economic sanctions rather than prison time. However, the judge maintained the precautionary measure of justified preventive detention. Defense attorneys have challenged this decision, calling it ‘unusual’ and arguing that the conduct did not constitute direct deception against a person, but rather against a computer system.

The academy’s owners had marketed themselves as experts in mathematics and statistics, claiming to have a method that helped thousands of students pass various evaluations over a decade. Following the arrests by the Mexico City Prosecutor's Office, the academy's offices and campuses have remained closed.
