UNAM launches investigation into admission exam cheating allegations

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has opened an inquiry after detecting irregularities in its recent online admission examinations. Rector Leonardo Lomelí reported that a little over one percent of the tests showed signs of cheating, and the university’s monitoring systems flagged the incidents. Selected candidates are being examined individually, and possible sanctions will be applied if fraud is confirmed. Despite the probe, UNAM said the admission process will continue for the thousands of applicants seeking places in its high‑school and university programs.

The university emphasized that it will scrutinise each case thoroughly to ensure that spots are allocated fairly and transparently, underscoring the high demand for entry into the country’s premier public institution.
