UNAM begins in-person Control Exams across four Mexican cities

The Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) has begun its in-person Control Exam for undergraduate applicants, a measure taken following irregularities and suspected use of artificial intelligence during the initial online admission process. The evaluation consists of 120 questions to be completed within three hours.

For the first time, the university has decentralized the testing process, establishing four distinct locations: León (Guanajuato), Oaxaca, Tijuana (Baja California), and Mexico City. In León, the first session concluded on August 12 with 501 participants, representing approximately 68% of those summoned for that specific venue. The testing in León utilizes digital tablets in an offline mode to ensure security.

The schedule for the remaining sessions includes Oaxaca on August 13, Tijuana on August 15 and 16, and Mexico City from August 17 to 19. While many applicants have successfully downloaded their appointments, some students have reported difficulties in receiving responses from university authorities regarding registration issues. Statistical analyses suggest that this secondary evaluation could lead to a significant shift in minimum entry scores for highly competitive majors, such as Biological-Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
