The Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) detected atypical scores and suspected AI‑assisted cheating in its 2026 online admission exam for licentiate programs. In response, the university published minimum‑score tables – for example, Medicine requires 111 correct answers – and announced a mandatory in‑person “examen de control” to be held from 12 to 19 August 2026 in Mexico City, León, Oaxaca and Tijuana. About 58 000 candidates will be required to take the test, and UNAM will cover all costs, so no applicant will be charged.

UNAM also cancelled its contract with the technology provider Territorium Life, a deal valued at roughly 69 million pesos. The university will conduct three audits of the contract and platform: a technological audit, an internal audit by the university’s Contraloría, and an audit by the Auditoría Superior de la Federación (ASF), which has been formally asked to review the procurement process. Separate investigations by the Mexico City prosecutor’s office have been opened concerning alleged sale of exam answers.

These measures aim to restore confidence in the admission process while ensuring that the upcoming academic year, beginning 31 August 2026, proceeds as scheduled.
