Uncle statue of artist Ryohei Yanagihara unveiled in Yokohama

A bronze statue of ‘Uncle’, created by artist Ryohei Yanagihara, was unveiled at Nippon Maru Memorial Park in Yokohama on August 17. Yanagihara is known as the creator of the ‘Uncle Tris’ character for Suntory.

Suntory commissioned the statue to honor Yanagihara’s connection to Yokohama and donated it to the Nippon Maru Memorial Foundation. The installation aims to preserve the artist's legacy and provide a new landmark for visitors to the city.

To celebrate the unveiling, a digital stamp rally is being held through September 30. The event invites participants to visit ten locations associated with Yanagihara, including the Ryohei Yanagihara Art Museum and Hotel New Grand. Participants who collect at least three stamps can receive an original AR photo frame, and further prizes such as cruise tickets and dining vouchers are available through a lottery.
