UNEAC celebrates 65th anniversary of its founding in Cuba
The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) celebrated its 65th anniversary with various ceremonies across the country. A central event held at the institution's national headquarters in Vedado, Havana, was attended by President Miguel Díaz-Canel and UNEAC President Marta Bonet de la Cruz. The ceremony honored the organization's history, which began on August 22, 1961, under its first president, National Poet Nicolás Guillén.
During the celebrations, several cultural figures received recognitions, including the ‘Arte Fiel’ distinction. In Santiago de Cuba, the Nicolás Guillén Diploma and the Palma Real Honorary Award were presented to various artists and the Caguayo Foundation. Other regional celebrations included a fair and musical performances in Bayamo, and the inauguration of the Calle Real cultural center in Pinar del Río, which includes a commercial gallery and the headquarters of the Cauce editorial.
In her address, Marta Bonet de la Cruz emphasized the role of UNEAC in the nation's creative development and its commitment to serving the people through art and literature, despite what she described as external hostilities.
