UNEAC celebrates 65 years of Cuban cultural history

The Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC) is celebrating its 65th anniversary. Founded on August 22, 1961, under the inaugural presidency of Nicolás Guillén, the organization serves as a central hub for various creative disciplines, including writers, musicians, visual artists, and researchers.

In Pinar del Río, a wide program of cultural activities is underway to mark the milestone. Events include the inauguration of a gallery at the Calle Real cultural center featuring UNEAC’s plastic arts collection. In collaboration with Cauce Editorial, the celebrations include literary presentations such as ‘Los bustos erguidos: crítica y trascendencia’ by Yanetsy Ariste and ‘Andar Pinar: las artes visuales de los ’90’ by Jorge Luis Montesinos.

Other scheduled activities include a panel on the classic children's literature ‘Román Elé’ by Nersys Felipe, an iconography exhibition of Fidel Castro, and a children's contest honoring writer René Valdés. The festivities also feature a book fair recognizing José Raúl Fraguela and Enrique Giniebra.
