Unemat campus in Mato Grosso receives over R$18 million for infrastructure and student aid

The Tangará da Serra campus of the Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso (Unemat) has been allocated more than R$ 18 million over the past four years. The funding supports modernization of facilities, expansion of the library collection, and the provision of scholarships and student assistance.

In 2025 the campus offered 46 scholarships tied to teaching, research and extension projects and granted aid for food and housing to 198 students, totaling R$ 915 000. The institute expects the aid amount to approach R$ 1 million in 2026. Student Maria Aparecida Ferreira, who travels from Poconé to study, said the assistance is essential for covering rent, meals and study materials. Rector Vera Maquêa highlighted that student assistance is a priority to ensure academic success.

Infrastructure upgrades include a new experimental area, expansions and renovations of academic blocks, the cafeteria, the central student office and the student affairs centre. The library system now offers a virtual catalogue with 32,042 titles accessible across all Unemat campuses.
