UNEP and TSB to host COP31 Global Sustainable Insurance Summit in Antalya
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Insurance Association of Türkiye (TSB) will co-host the COP31 Global Sustainable Insurance Summit in Antalya, Türkiye, on November 13-14, 2026. Held under the theme ‘The Climate Resilience Imperative,’ the summit aims to examine how the insurance industry can act as a risk manager, risk carrier, and investor to strengthen economic resilience against climate change.
Participants will include global financial leaders, policymakers, regulators, and representatives from UN agencies and academia. The event will feature the global launch of the UN Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI) white paper, titled ‘From Vulnerability to Insurability.’
Butch Bacani, Head of Insurance at UNEP, noted that increasing frequencies of floods, wildfires, and droughts are driving economic losses and widening insurance protection gaps. He warned that when assets become uninsurable, they may also become unbankable and uninvestable, potentially destabilizing the broader macroeconomy. The summit will focus on incentivizing upfront resilience investments to protect communities and financial systems before disasters occur.
