UNICEF calls for protection of children in Russia-Ukraine conflict
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) issued a statement urging all parties in the Russia‑Ukraine war to uphold international humanitarian law and protect civilians, especially children. The agency reported that three children were among seven people killed in a missile attack on Russia’s Krasnodar region, which also injured about 40 others. A day earlier, a drone strike in the Belgorod region killed a 13‑year‑old girl and injured two younger girls.
In Ukraine, at least six children were killed in attacks over the past week, including an eight‑year‑old boy, three children who died with their families in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and two girls in the Sumy region. Nineteen children were reported injured during the same period. UNICEF stressed that children have the right to safety in homes, playgrounds, and beaches, and called for an immediate halt to attacks that endanger them and civilian infrastructure.
