Unidentified drone enters Moldova and Romania, triggering military response

An unidentified drone entered Moldovan airspace early Monday morning, traveling from Ukraine's Odesa region through southern Moldova before entering Romania. The Moldovan Ministry of Defense reported that the drone entered the country at 05:55 and exited toward Romania approximately 14 minutes later, prompting a 15-minute restriction of southern Moldovan airspace.

Romanian radar systems detected intermittent signals in the Cahul region of Moldova and later in Galați county, specifically near Târgu Bujor. In response, the Romanian Ministry of National Defense scrambled two F-16 fighter jets from the Borcea airbase and an IAR-330 SOCAT military helicopter to monitor the situation. At 06:12, authorities issued an RO-Alert to warn local residents of the potential danger from falling objects.

Despite the aerial alert, which lasted until 08:52, military helicopters patrolling the Târgu Bujor and Matca areas reported finding no evidence of impact, debris, or wreckage. The incident follows a pattern of increased drone activity near the borders of Romania and Moldova amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
