Unidos de Bangu to honor Marquinho PQD in 2027 Carnival

The samba school Unidos de Bangu has announced its theme for the 2027 Carnival parade at the Marquês de Sapucaí. Titled ‘A Outra Ceia’, the parade will honor the life and musical legacy of composer Marquinho PQD.

Rather than a strictly chronological biography, the parade, designed by carnival designers Ariel Pontes and Ester Domingos, will focus on the composer’s extensive body of work. Marquinho PQD, whose nickname refers to his service as a paratrooper in the Army, has authored over 400 compositions. His career includes notable collaborations with artists such as Arlindo Cruz and songs recorded by prominent figures like Beth Carvalho and Zeca Pagodinho.

Unidos de Bangu is scheduled to perform on Friday, February 5, 2027, as the eighth and final school of the night.
