UNIFIL reports fluctuating military activity in southern Lebanon

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said that military activity in southern Lebanon has recently intensified, raising concerns of a broader conflict between Israel and Lebanon. UNIFIL highlighted increased kinetic operations along the border following weeks of heightened tension.

A few days later, UNIFIL spokesperson Farhan Haq announced a significant drop in kinetic activity in the same area. The change follows a framework agreement signed on 26 June in Washington, which outlines the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon and calls for Hezbollah’s disarmament. Despite the reported decrease, Israeli strikes continue almost daily, prompting many residents to flee the region.

UNIFIL continues to monitor the situation closely to prevent further escalation and to support civilian safety.
