In response to the mandate expiration, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York to request the maintenance of an international security presence. Addressing the UN General Assembly, Salam identified the recovery of national territory from Israeli occupation as a primary existential challenge.
