UNIFIL condemns Israeli flags placed in southern Lebanon
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has condemned the placement of Israeli flags in southern Lebanon, stating the action violates UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Video footage, reportedly provided to journalist Amit Segal by Israeli soldiers, shows Israeli flags flying along a major coastal highway connecting the village of Naqoura to the city of Tyre. UNIFIL spokesperson Cantrice Ardiel confirmed that flags have been observed in several locations, including the Naqoura-Tyre road and within Naqoura itself.
UNIFIL has urged all parties to avoid provocative actions that could escalate regional tensions or trigger further violations of the resolution that ended the 2006 conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
